When you begin your analysis, you will need to determine the relationship between the variables you wish to test. The first step is to identify your independent variables and dependent variables.
For Example…
If you want to study whether college students performed better during online or in-person learning, you could send out a survey asking for a student’s grades, and whether they received the grade during in-person, or virtual learning. In this example, online or in-person learning would be the independent variable, and grades would be the dependent variable.
Independent variables, also known as explanatory variables, are factors that precede or cause the phenomena you wish to observe.
Dependent variables, also referred to as response variables, are factors that shift following, or because of, changes to the independent variables.
